Sermon – Apostles Creed: Fully God. Fully Man.

Read the text – Hebrews 2:1-18

For thousands of years Christians have said the words of the Apostles Creed together. In this talk Howard Whitehouse looks at the line in the creed which states ‘I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, Our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary’ and focuses on the beautiful and complex nature of Jesus Christ being fully God and fully Man. This is a rich treatment and needs close attention to several Bible passage – and you will see Howard cover many of them in this talk.

Sermon – Apostles Creed: Creator of the Heavens and Earth

For thousands of years Christians have said the words of the Apostles Creed together. Each line contains rich theology and meaning and in this talk Nick Lindeback focuses on the significance of God Almighty as sovereign and merciful creator.

In looking at both Psalm 33 and the doxology of Romans 11 we see God’s sovereignty, mercy and creating power. And in looking at Romans 12:1-2 we see an appropriate and fitting response to God almighty creator of heaven and earth.

Sermon – Joshua – Promise & Purpose: Commission (Joshua 1:1-18)

Joshua: Promise & Purpose - Bible Talk Series

What is the value of a promise? For one, a promise can give direction as you look forward to the fulfillment of the promise. And as such it gives purpose to how we conduct ourselves as we move closer to the day that the promise is fulfilled. God’s people Israel acted on the strength of the promise that they would be delivered into a new and good land – a home. Joshua leads them by the hand of God – home. In our Bible talks, we are looking at the extraordinary book of Joshua – a book of promise and purpose. A book that points us forward to the fulfillment of the gospel promise, that in Jesus we will delivered – home. In the meantime, it gives us a clear purpose.

This talk follows the commissioning of Joshua to lead Israel into the promised land, and to keep his commands just as Moses did – only be strong and courageous!

Sermon – Jesus Said…What!?: I AM The True Vine (John 15:1-17)

As a society, we have become somewhat immune to hearing outrageous claims. They are issued, capture some newsworthy attention, and then are fairly quickly ignored or pushed aside. Jesus issued some outrageous claims, in fact, claims that were far beyond what we hear today. In this Bible Talk series, we look at the “I AM…” statements from the gospel of John. Newsworthy – yes. Ignored – yes. Pushed aside – yes. Yet, to look into them we will see the glory of God in the person of Jesus Christ. It would be to our loss to be immune.

This talk investigates Jesus claim to be the true vine – God has picked each Christian to be one of the branches of the vine to bear fruit. Remain with God by remaining in Christ, the true vine.

Sermon – Does Science disprove Christianity? (Psalm 19/Romans 1:18-23)

Hot Topics Graphic

Can the disciplines that lie behind both Science and Christianity be compatible? Is there difference?  Glen Connor who holds degrees in both science and theology considers this often disputable topic. Perhaps both sides have things to learn?

A Perfect Storm – Crying out to God (Psalm 13)

Sometimes in life we get hit by the perfect storm.

I live in the Lower Blue Mountains of NSW – west of Sydney. At present, we are experiencing a perfect storm – hot temperatures, long term drought, a build up of combustible and dry material, high winds and a terrific fire storm.

Since September 5th 2019 there has been fires burning in NSW and Queensland, which at the time of writing, has burned through 3,900,000 hectares, claimed 8 lives, and destroyed 829 properties.

It is understandable that many have fears and concerns.

And while natural disasters cause collective concern, there are so often times when individuals experience there own personal perfect storm – an unexpected medical diagnosis, the loss of a job, a car accident, sickness, depression, family dramas, breakdown of relationships, financial pressures, death of a loved one.

What do we do when we get hit by the perfect storm – or any storm?

Sermon – Bold Prayers through a Great Deliverer in Psalm 22

How’s your prayer life? Perhaps you pray “plastic surgery” prayers – that look and sound OK but cover up how you are really feeling. In Psalm 22, Simon Marshman takes us to a ‘raw and real’ prayer of King David, to help us learn to rely upon our faithful God even though we may be struggling through difficult times.

The Help and the Helper (Psalm 121)

It is often my privilege to sit with someone who needs help. That might be at their bedside because they are dying. It could be in the aged care facility that is now their ‘home’. It could be across the table as they share what burdens them so deeply. The anxiety, sometimes the fear, is clear and present. The causes are wide and varied. Help is what they need.

And how useless I am!
