How are you so influenced by the gospel, that your ‘walk in the Spirit’ demonstrates your thankfulness?
There is a vertical dimension to our walk – that is, a dimension between God and you. Ephesians says walk carefully, wisely, making the most of every opportunity – understanding the will of the Lord (Eph 5:15-17). It is terrific that by the power of the gospel and in the work of the Spirit we are vertically connected to God.
There is also a horizontal dimension to our walk – that is, a dimension between you and others (who have the hope of the gospel). Ephesians says walk thankfully, speaking to one another in ways that will encourage others to give thanks to God the Father (Eph 5:19-20).
What a privilege it is to be able together to thank God for everything in the name of Jesus Christ. Our actions help display our thankfulness (or not, if we are unwise) – c.f. Eph 5:17-18.
When a vertical axis is crossed with a horizontal axis – we look at a cross. That sounds wise!
