Any teaching that wants to suggest that Christians need Jesus PLUS … (anything else) is guilty of contradicting the supremacy of Christ. Being told that believers need more than him (either for salvation or to live as a Christian) means that they are being taught that what Jesus has done is not enough. So how does a Christian person stand firm in faith in this life?
In this talk Ken Noakes introduces us to the letter written to the church of Colossae. He wants to encourage them and in doing so tells them what he is praying for them. And we are given a wonderful model in how to encourage and pray for those engaged in living out their faith in Christ.

We meet Job’s younger friend Elihu. He has been patiently listening to all that has so far been said and finally he breaks his silence and implores Job to listen (33:1-2). He wants Job to trust his words for he is – sincere (33:3), compassionate (33:6-7) and he speaks with the spirit of God (33:4-5).
His argument: Job is not suffering because he has sinned, but he cautions Job not to sin in his suffering.
Gary Haddon helps the listener consider how we react when suffering – do we look up and down? The ‘why’ of suffering is not the question, but who we are trusting for salvation.

The Kingdom of Heaven may seem inconsequential now, but not always. Whoever has ears, hear. Do you?
In this Bible talk, Archie Poulos helps the listener to take Jesus seriously and to take note of his warning about the coming kingdom of heaven. For today, we are at war, and yet may not even realize it! He says: be amazed, not offended. And he says: Take note, don’t be distracted.
Imagine being the younger brother of Jesus Christ. Always following in the footsteps of the glory child!! James is refreshingly matter of fact and down to earth. As we read the letter by James, we read his concern that those following Jesus don’t only listen, but actually walk in his footsteps. For him righteousness matters, and it is the practical righteousness that you can hear in the words and see in the actions of the follower of Jesus that really counts. This talk challenges the boastful and the arrogant to be humble and listen.

COVID has changed the experience for many Christians – gone is the ability to gather together physically to listen to the preaching of God’s word. Church is now online!
A key discipline that goes with the Christian life is the practice of sitting under the teaching of the Bible. Historically that has happened when believers gather together regularly to hear someone teach/preach through a passage with the hope that those before them will walk away with an encouragement, or challenge, to live as the disciples of Christ in the days ahead.

‘What Jesus says to the Crowds and to the Disciples and to the Pharisees, is that there is an eternal future. It is good, it is real, it is far better than what we have here.’ (Ken D Noakes)
